Tamzin Outhwaite’s life since EastEnders as soap star flogs clothes to pay mortgage

Soap darling Tamzin Outhwaite made waves in a recent interview as she revealed she was selling clothes to pay the mortgage off.

The 50-year-old actress, best known for her EastEnders stint in the late 90s and early noughties, told that she was flogging old possessions to keep the payments going as Covid ravages the entertainment industry.

“I just think this is going to be probably how I’m going to pay my mortgage and exist for a while, until our industry comes back,” Tamzin shared with the Irregular B podcast.

Thrifty Tamzin’s been thinking up other ways to help pay the bills, adding: “I’m not snobby or proud about what I do. I love a car boot sale, but everything is online. I’m thinking of ways of: ‘How do I do that now?’

“I’m not proud. ‘Oh god, influencers make money, how do you go about doing that?”

And the Mel Owen star has been through a lot since her Walford days, which she left behind in 2002.

First appearing on the Square in 1998, Tamzin carved out a big following during her short four-year stint – being named soaps’ Sexiest Female two years on the trot.

But it wasn’t to last and she left EastEnders to take up new acting opportunities.

She went on to star in shows like New Tricks and Hotel Babylon, and made a lauded return to EastEnders in 2017.

Now 50, Tamzin’s personal life sees her happy with hunky boyfriend Tom Childs, 29, who very quickly became more than just a “fling.”

They first met at a yoga studio three years back, and have gone from strength to strength since.

She told the Mirror: “It was meant to just be a fling.

“Then it went from a fling to, ‘I don’t want to be away from you.’

“For one of the first times in my life I’m living in the moment and not worrying about what’s going to happen, which is lovely.”

Tom recently shacked up with Tamzin and her two daughters Marnie, 18, and Flo, 12.

It seems, though, that marriage is off the table as Tamzin revealed her daughters would hate it if they tied the knot.

She explained to The Sun : “My daughters were excited by him moving in, but they wouldn’t like us to get married – they’d hate that.”

But Tamzin hasn’t always been so lucky in love – her marriage to Lucifer and Miranda actor Tom Ellis came to an end, citing adultery.

They tied the knot in 2012, having been introduced by mutual pal James McAvoy.

And while she’s never directly addressed the cause of their split, she shared that it was more serious than a “one-night stand.”

Tom has since admitted to cheating.

And he wed Meaghan Oppenheimer in 2019.
